In today's world, most of us purchase our food at the supermarket, never knowing where it was grown, let alone how or by whom. At Farmhouse, the essence of our being is inspired by the incredible artisan bounty which surrounds us. From our Bartolomei Ranch (our family ranch, three miles from Farmhouse Inn) bee hives, vineyards, heirloom apple trees and gardens to the wonderful farmers scattered throughout the immediate area, we have an incredible diversity of dairy, produce and meat to choose from each season. Here, in the heart of the Russian River Valley, legends, lore, craft and tradition are passed from one generation to the next. Steeped in Sonoma County tradition and inspired by a renewed interest in agricultural ecosystems, Farmhouse's kitchen relies on the bounty of heirloom produce, artisan handmade cheese and dairy and free-range livestock available locally.
The Farmhouse property itself is blessed by a number of mature fruit trees, wild berries and a perfect climate for citrus. Our chefs avail themselves of figs from outside the kitchen door, mulberries from our 100 year old tree, blackberries growing wild over the fence and Meyer lemons, Key limes and a variety of oranges seasonally.
Owner's Catherine and Joe Bartolomei Family Ranch
(3 miles from Farmhouse)
We are proud to be the fith generation of our family to farm this land - home to the Giovanetti and Bartolomei family for almost a century - and now home to Catherine, her husband Rod Smith, and children Helen and Rodric Jr. Founded by our Great Grandfather, Domenic Giovanetti, our ranch is proud to offer Farmhouse a rich variety of organic produce.
At nearby Bartolomei Ranch, from our Italian bee hives, we derive summer blackberry honey and spring forest honeys. Domenic's zinfandel vineyards have been replanted to pinot noir vineyards, and produce some of the finest pinot noir grown in California. The fruit is sold to Red Car winery who make wonderful vineyard designated pinot noirs. Our heirloom apple and pear orchards offer Gravenstein, Golden Delicious, Jonathan, Rome Beauties and a nice cider apple that we just refer to as "winter apples." Our one acre vegetable garden grows much of the seasonal produce we use at the inn.
Please note that the family ranch is not open to the general public.
